Weekend shout out!

We've reached that time of year where we are gearing up for the fall. Parents are shopping for Back To School and Shops are working on their fall class schedules.

I've spent a number of hours this week working with Cathy from Pinheads Quilting Company to schedule some really great classes - if I do say so myself! Check the On the Calendar section below for more details.

I'm excited to welcome my youngest back from Vancouver for a week and my Mother from Winnipeg for a few days. They will overlap their visits by a few days, so Studio time will be limited in the next few weeks.

In the Studio

As I've booked a full day for Tuesday, I am switching the Sew Day to Wednesday, August 15. Just give me a call or shoot a text or email to let me know you are coming. These sew days are great. Sometimes participants bring everything they need (including a kitchen sink) to work on a specific project. Sometimes they bring a single box with their project and use my tools (machines included). Sometimes its an opportunity to bask in my cool below ground (basement) studio! And sometimes to use my longarms!

Don't forget my August Sale! All longarm services (excluding rentals) for August (brought in before the end of August) will receive 10% off. Bring in 2 quilts and receive 15% off, 3 quilts, 20% off and 4 will receive 25% off quilting services!!!!! If I already have your quilt, I'll apply the discount when you pick it up!

On the Calendar

SEW DAY this week is a full day Wednesday, 9-9. It's only $15 to join us, but I do need to know you are coming so I can set up for you. This past week, Arla quilted her lovely quilt for a nephew's wedding! She used the "evolution" pantograph and was done in no time at all.

Fall Classes

  • I'll be posting details about fall classes on the website this weekend. As mentioned earlier in this post, Cathy from Pinheads and I have been finalizing my classes scheduled at their store in Airdrie. I think it's a great line-up. Here are a few highlights!

  • Wee-Sew Wednesdays; I'm bringing back a modified version of my KidSew program from when I owned Needleworks. I loved teaching the kids and am so looking forward to this time again! We'll start with a totebag and binder cover to get the kids started and then move on to more advanced projects. If you are interested in registering your child, do it soon as space is limited!

  • Free Motion Quilting - Series; In discussion with Cathy, we've found that many people will take the Free Motion Quilting - Basics class, but not do anything else after that. In this series of 4 classes (get a discount if you register for all 4) we'll start at the beginning and progress and add more content in each of the following classes. This is a great foundation for anyone who wants to progress with Free Motion Quilting

  • Free Motion Quilting - Rulers on a Sit Down machine; this class will introduce students to quilting with rulers or templates. We'll cover setting up the machine as well as safety and how to manipulate quilts. We'll have a brief look at straight and curved rulers.

  • Lone Star: In this class students will learn how to cut and sew accurately using bias edges. The pattern for the centre of the quilt is included in the cost of the class.

  • Have you heard about the "What the heck do I do now?" class? We finish our lovely quilt tops, but don't have a clue how to "finish" them. This class takes us from the "quilt as desired" to lots of ideas for getting that quilt done! Students are asked to bring an unfinished quilt top to class and we'll share lots of ideas for getting those quilt tops quilted!

  • I spent a few minutes this weekend updating my calendar for confirmed travel events.

Weekend Shout Out! Congratulations! Arla has won the $35 gift coupon for services at Meadow Rose Quilting! She was able to use it this week to pay for a portion of her longarm rental.

Have a great week sewing and quilting.
