2024 Quilts in Review
Wow, it's 2025 already!!! I thought I'd spend some time this week and clean up pictures on my phone and computer and make a record of some finished projects in the past year.
I didn't keep good records, so I'm not going to tag for each month of completion.
This was a quick table runner I pieced and quilted to show a variety of quilted feathers.
I was able to finally finish my niece's quilt and gift it to her this past spring. I make all the next generation (family) large lap size quilts when they are in high school. They already have baby quilts and will probably get wedding quilts (or adult quilts) as the need or time arrives.
I've been working on some patterns that use a simple 9-patch block with some solids and half square triangles. This is the smallest sample of the Arabesque Zig Zag.
This is a queen size quilt that I pieced while we were on vacation this summer.
This is another of the Arabesque series. I call it Arabesque Diamonds. If I were to piece this with a more solid looking background, it would be a great place to show off some great quilting.
This is the third quilt in the Arabesque series, Arabesque Pinwheels shows off contrast Half Square Triangles for another great look.
My queen size Xs & Os Quilt. Another of my patterns that were supposed to be published last year, but just didn't happen. I really want to get these patterns published in 2025!
This is a scrappy quilt I made at our spring guild retreat using some strip pieced scraps and the Star 60 tool from Studio 180 Design.
Each year I seem to be offering a Scrap Quilt Along. This year we did a Scrappy Trips quilt. I made 3 quilts using different fabrics and different layouts. This is a simple diagonal design with a solid inner border and a pieced outer border. Check back later in the spring, I have an idea for this year's Scrap quilt.
There was a little bit of planning required for this quilt but I have nice diagonal lines.
This Scrappy Trips creates a zig zag design. I finished the quilt with a piano key border.
I love this Ribbon Quilt. I modified a design I saw on line and made the ribbons wider so I could play with some fill designs. I'm calling it my Stone Soup Ribbons quilt as I've put in as many different quilting designs as I could.
Each year Handi Quilter National Educators are challenged to make a quilt and show off some quilting techniques. The quilts then go "on the road" for a few years and are put on display at various quilt shows in the US. This year the challenge was to use Free Spirit fabrics and limit to 50" square. I decided to use my Star 60 tool from Studio 180 Design and create some pieced log cabins. I quilted with rulers and free motion feathers.
A few years ago my Brother in Law informed me (and showed me) a very thread bare quilt. He and his wife use their quilts every night when they watch TV and their quilts were looking quilt ragged and see through! This quilt is my Brother in Law's and I challenged myself to quilt a variety of background fills.
And this is my Sister In Law's quilt.
This past year I played a lot with the Star 60 Tool from Studio 180 Design. In the coming year I'll be focusing on the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool. Join me for this class!
Studio 180 Design Certified Instructors would invited to participate in a block challenge with Island Batiks. Here is my small wall hanging using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool
Here's a very simple quilt that used up a Layer Cake of fabric that was in my Mum's stash.
I quilted a Going Live quilt for Nancy at Bow Bench and had to make a quilt for myself! The quilt is quilted, I just didn't get it bound for this Christmas. But it will be done for next year!!!!
I'm on a mission to quilt tops that have been sitting around for a long time. This quilt was made with the V Block and 4 Patch Square Up tools from Studio 180 Design.
Well, that's most of my year in quilting. I seem to do lots of smaller projects and give them away without taking any pictures and of course, I never seem to get pictures of all my customer quilting. Maybe that should be my new year's resolution! Check back at the end of the year and see how I did.
In the mean time...
Happy Quilting!
